A RESOLUTION CALLING AND PROVIDING FOR A
SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTIOd TO BE HELD ON
THE 23d DAY OF DECEMBER, 1947, FOR THE PUR-
POSE OF SUBMITTING TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, FOR
THEIR APPROVAL OR DISAPPROVAL A MEASURE
KNOWN AS ORDINANCE NO. 824 _, PASSED AND
ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL ON THE 19th DAY
OF NOVEMBER, 1947, AUTHORIZING THE SOUTHERN
BELL TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY, ITS
SUCCESSORS AND ASSIGNS, TO ESTABLISH, CON-
STRUCT, MAINTAIN AND OPERATE ITS TELEPHONE
POLES, WIRES AND OTHER TELEPHONE PROPERTY
UPON, ALONG, ACROSS AND UNDER THE PUBLIC
STREETS, ROADS, LANES, ALLEYS, AVENUES,
BOULEVARDS AND OTHER PUBLIC HIGHWAYS AND
PLACES IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA,
SUBJECT TO ALL PROVISIONS, TERMS AND CONDI-
TIONS IN SAID ORDINANCE RECITED; DESIGNAT-
ING THE VOTING PLACES; PROVIDING FOR THE
REGISTRATION OF VOTERS QUALIFIED TO VOTE IN
SAID SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION; PRESCRIBING
THE FORM OF BALLOT; PROVIDING FOR THE PUBLI-
CATION OF NOTICE OF SAID SPECIAL MUNICIPAL
ELECTION.
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
at a regular meeting duly called and held according to law, on the
19th day of November, 1947, Passed upon its third and final reading
a measure known as Ordinance No. 824 , entitled:
"AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SOUTHERN BELL
TELEPHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY, ITS SUCCESSORS
AND ASSIGNS, • TO ESTABLISH, CONSTRUCT, MAINTAIN
AND OPERATE ITS TELEPHONE POLES, WIRES AND
OTHER TELEPHONE PROPERTY UPON, ALONG, ACROSS
AND UNDER THE PUBLIC STREETS, ROADS, LANES,
ALLEYS, AVENUES, BOULEVARDS AND OTHER PUBLIC
HIGHWAYS AND PLACES IN THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA" ,
and
WHEREAS, under the provisions of Section 26 of the Charter of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, and as recited in Section 14 of
said Ordinance No. 824 , said Ordinance shall not become a law
until the same has been approved by a majority of the qualified voters
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, voting thereon at either a
general election or at a special election held for such purpose.
and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that said Ordinance
shall be in force after its approval by a majority of the qualified
voters of the City of Miami Beach, Florida., voting at a special elec-
tion held therefor, and upon the filing of acceptance thereof by said
Company.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida:

Section 1: That a special municipal election is hereby
called anddirected to be held in the City of Miami Beach,
Florida, from Seven o'clock A. M. until Seven o' clock P.
Eastern Standard Time, on Tuesday, the 23d day of December, 1947,
for the purpose of s'zbmitting to he qualified voters of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, for approval or disapproval, a measure
known as Ordinance No. 824 , entitled as aforesaid, and passed
and adopted by the City Council on third and final reading on
the 19th day of November, 1947.
Section 2: That said special municipal election shall be
held at the following polling places in the precincts designat?d,
.to-wit:
PRECINCT NO. 25: Being all of the area within the City of Miami
Beach lying North of the centerline of 51st
Street, the Polling Place of which shall be at
the 69TH STREET FIRE STATION, situated at 6860
Indian Creek Drive.
PRECINCT NO. 26: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach
lying 'between the centerline of 51st Street
ON TI-E NORTH and a line ON THE SOUTH running
Westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along the
centerline of 34th Street to Biscayne Water-
way, thence Westerly along the centerline of
Biscayne Waterway to Biscayne Bay, the Polling
Place of which shall be at the AUDITORIUM OF
NORTH BEACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, situated on the
Northeast corner of the intersection of 41st
Street and Chase Avenue.
PEECINCT NO. 27: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach
lying between the South line of Precinct No.
26, ON THE NORTH and a line ON THE SOUTH running
Westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along the
centerline of 23rd Street to Dade Boulevard,
thence along the centerline of Dade Boulevard
to Biscayne Bay, also including Belle Isle,
Rivo Alto Island, Di Lido Island and San
Marino Island the Polling Place of which
shall be at THE DADE BOULEVARD FIRE STATION,
situated on the Northwest corner of the
intersection of Dade Boulevard and Pine Tree
Drive.
PRECINCT NO. 28: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach,
lying between the South line of Precinct No. 27,
ON THE NORTH and a line ON THE SOUTH running
Westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along the cen-
terline of 15th Street to Bay Road, thence South
along the centerline of Bay Road to 14th Street,
thence West along the centerline of 14th Street
to Biscayne Bay, the Polling Place of which shall
be at Municipal Golf Club House, 21st Street and
Washington Avenue.

OI -CT NO. 29: Being the area within the City of Miami
Beach lying between the South line of
Precinct No. 28, ON THE, NORTH and a line
ON THE SOUTH running Westerly from the
Atlantic Ocean to Biscayne Bay along the
centerline of 11th Street and said line
produced, the Polling Place of which shall
be at THE FIRE STATION IN THE CITY HALL
BUILDING, situated on 12th Street between
Washington Avenue and Drexel Avenue.
PRECI_?CT ITO. 30: Being the area within the City of Miami
Beach lying between the South line of
Precinct No. 29, ON THE NORTH and a line
' ON THE SOUTH running 'lesterly from the
Atlantic Ocean along the centerline of
7th Street to Alton Road, thence South
along the centerline of Alton Road to 6th
Street, thence Westerly along the centerline
of 6th Street to Biscayne Bay, the Polling
Place of which shall be at THE LIFE GUARD
STATION situated in Lumnus Park on the Ocean
Front at 10th Street.
PRECINCT NO. 31: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach
lying between the South line of Precinct No.
30, ON THE NORTH and a line ON THE SOUTH
running Westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along
the centerline of 3rd Street to Alton Road
thence along the South line of Lot 32 in Block
111 of Ocean Beach Addition No. 3, to Biscayne
Bay, also including Star Island, Palm Island
and Hibiscus Island, the Polling Place of which
shall be at the South Beach Elementary School
situated between Third and Fourth Streets on
Alton Road.
PRECINCT NO. 32: Being all the area within the City of Miami
Beach lying South of the South line of Precinct
No. 31, also including the Causeway property
and the islands South of the County Causeway,
the Polling Place of which shall be at the
Municipal Pier, situated on the Ocean Front
at Biscayne Street.

Section 3: That for the purpose of enabling persons to
register who are qualified to register for and to vote in said special
municipal election, the City Clerk, who is also Supervisor of Registra-
tion, shall open the books of said City from Nine o' clock A.M. until
Twelve o' clock Noon on Saturdays and from Nine o' clock A.M. until
Five o' clock P.M. on each day other than Saturdays, Sundays and Holi-
days excepted, from November 21st, 1947, to December 13, 1947, both
inclusive, and after said December 13th, 1947, no person shall be
registered for said election.
Section 4: That the official ballot to be used at said special
municipal election shall be in full compliance with the laws of the
State of Florida with respect to absentee ballots and to the use of
mechanical voting machines, and shall be substantially in the follow-
ing form, to-wit:

Section 5: That the City Clerk is hereby authorized and direct-
ed to publish in The Evening Sun and Daily Tropics, a newspaper of
general circulation published in the City of Miami Beach, Florida, once
a week for a period of four consecutive weeks, next preceding said
special election, a Notice of said special municipal election in sub-
stantially the following form:
"NOTICE OF SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION, CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, DECEMBER 2.3d, 1947, FOR
THE APPROVAL OR DISAPPROVAL OF A MEASURE KNOWN
AS ORDINANCE NO. 824 , ENTITLED: 'AN
ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE SOUTHERN BELL TELE-
PHONE AND TELEGRAPH COMPANY, ITS SUCCESSORS AND
ASSIGNS, TO ESTABLISH, CONSTRUCT, MAINTAIN AND
OPERATE ITS TELEPHONE POLES, WIRES AND OTHER

A special municipal election will be held in the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, from Seven o' clock A. i.. until Seven o' clock
P. M. , Eastern Standard Time, on the 23d day of December, 1947, at
the following voting places in the precincts designated, to-wit:
PRECINCT NO. 25: Being all of the area within the City of Miami
Beach lying North of the centerline of 51st Street, the Polling Place

between. the centerline of 51st Street ON THE NORTH and a line ON THE

PRECINCT NO. 29: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 28, ON THE NORTH and a line
ON THE SOUTH running Westerly from the Atlantic Ocean to Biscayne Bay
along the centerline of 11th Street and said line produced, the
Polling Place of which shall be at THE FIRE STATION IN THE CITY HALL

PRECINCT N0. 30: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying

of Alton Road to 6th Street, thence Westerly along the centerline of
6th Street to Biscayne Bay, the Polling Place of which shall be at
THE LIFE GUARD STATION situated in Lummus Park on the OceanFront at

PRECINCT NO. 31: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 30, ON THE NORTH and a line
ON THE SOUTH running Westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along the cen-
terline of 3rd Street to Alton Road, thence along the South line of
Lot 32 in Block 111 of Ocean Beach Addition No. 3, to Biscayne Bay,

Polling Place of which shall be at the SOUTH BEACH ELEMENTARY..SCHOOL,
situated between third and fourth Streets on Alton Road.
PRECINCT NO. 32: Being all the area within the City of Miami Beach
lying South of the South line of Precinct No. 31,

For the purpose of enabling persons to register who are
qualified to register for and to vote in said special municipal elec-
tion the registration books of the City of Miami Beach will be open
in the City Registration Office in the Office of the City Clerk,
in the City Hall, from Nine o' clock A.M. until Twelve o' clock Noon
on Saturdays, and from Nine O' clock A.M. until Five o' clock P.M.
on each day other than Saturday, Sundays and Holidays excepted, from
November 21st, 1947, to December 13th, 1947, both inclusive, and
after December 13th, 1947, no _person shall be registered for said
election.
