I got your name from the City Desk of the Herald. I am
inquiring about Zissen's Bowery, a great wartime night club in Miami.
I was the Miami Port of Embarkation in early August 1943. While there
I often went to Zissen's Bowery.
When I returned from combat I was sent to Miami Beach for
Reassignment and went to Zissen's Bowery again.
I included a reference and a small discussion about this in
my "memoirs" at
http://www.charlies-web.com/WWIl_med/contentsced9.html
You will find it at this page, starting with:
"Another returnee and I rented a convertible and spent a lot
of time in the night spots, particularly the Flagler Garden and
Zissen's ".
This morning I got an inquiry from a descendant of the
owners! She was asking for information which has long since left my
memory, such as who was the MC? She also wondered what happened to it.
If you have any information about this place, I would love to
hear it and pass it along.
If you cannot help me, can you suggest someone that might be able to?
It was wonderful club for the time, a little ribald but I
never detected a mean bone in anyone! It was a wonderful place for
that time! --Chas--
