BEACH GARDEN CENTER FOUNDER EVELYN*F=R I N}.:._x•
Evelyn F'. *Frink ,*the driving force behind the creation of
the Miami Beach Garden Center and Conservatory and widow of
former Beach Mayor*Herbert.*A. *Frink ,*died of cancer Tuesday at
her home. She was 73.
"She carried on doing whatever good she could for the
Beach , " said Mrs. *Frink 's*daughter , Diane Alexander. "She loved
this city. "
In 1958, Mrs. *Frink*assumed the chairmanship of a committee
made up of members of Miami Beach garden clubs. Their goal was
to convince the city to establish a botanical garden and meeting
place. That goal was met in 1962, when the conservatory, at 2000

Convention Ceiit_er Dr. , was dedicated. It was not an easy task .
"We went out and mounted a campaign , " Mr's. *Fri-nk*recalled
in a 1985 interview. "We had every minister , rabbi , school
principal , bank presi dent -- everybody -_. and sold them on the
ic:fea It was a wonderful thing that a group of women did. "
It was also successful .
After 12 years as the center 's president , she was named
permanent honorary chairman in 1970.
A native Floridian , Mrs. *Frink:*moved to Miami Beach in
1933, the same year as her marriage. *Herbert*Frink:*served from
19.9 to 1949 as a Beach councilman , and as mayor from 1945 until
1947. He d:i.ed in 1962 in a shooting accident.
For 54 years, Mrs. *Frink:*lived in the same Miami. Beach
home, a wall of which is covered with citations and plagues in
appreciation of her service to the community.
The Frinks "loved it down here, and they gave their lives
to this place, " Alexander said
In addition to Mrs. Fink ' s daughter , survivors include one
son . *Herbert*C. *Frink:; *four grandchildren; and two great-
grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a. m. Friday, at the Walsh °< Wood
Funeral Home, with visitation for a half hour prior to services.

Interment will be private.
Memorial donations may be made to the scholarship fund of
the Miami Beach Women ' s Club , where Mrs. *Frink:*was a past-
president .
