OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
NO. LTC # 348-2018
LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members the City C%mmission
FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manage
DATE: June 18, 2018
SUBJECT: Palm & Hibiscus Right Of Way Infr.structure Improvement Project
The purpose of this Letter to Commission is to provide a project status and information
to the Mayor and City Commission regarding the Florida Power and Light (FPL) work
necessary to energize the new stormwater pump stations at Palm Island.
The overall Palm and Hibiscus project is 87 percent complete. The drainage system is
90 percent complete, including the stormwater pump stations. There are two pump
stations on Palm Island and one in Hibiscus Island. One of the pump stations for Palm
Island is 100 percent complete, tested and ready to be placed in operation; however,
FPL must provide electricity to the service point.
FPL's effort has been concentrated on addressing the power outages in the
neighborhood. FPL estimates that it will take a couple of months to resolve that issue,
which affects the timing for the pump station power supply.
The City has been coordinating with FPL to expedite the installation of the service point.
The work can be performed in approximately 8 to 10 hours, if the electricity to the entire
Palm Island can be shut down. The City reached out to the Palm and Hibiscus Home
Owner's Association (HOA) and they have coordinated and surveyed the residents. The
HOA has approved this work to be scheduled for Monday, June 25, 2018 starting at
approximately 9 AM and asked FPL to proceed.
The Office of Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) will continue communicating with the
residents through phone calls, mailings and door hangers, to ensure everyone is aware
of the electrical shut down. In addition, the HOA has also sent email notification to their
resident database.
