Resolution 6842 RESOLUTION NO. 6842
WHEREAS, there has recently been introduced in the
Florida Senate a bill by the terms of which there will be
assessed, levied and imposed, an excise tax of five (5/)
per cent on the privilege of renting sleeping accommodations
and space for concessions from hotels, apartment houses
, and rooming houses, and
WHEREAS, the housing and entertaining of tourists is
the main industry of the City of Miami Beach and the success-
ful operation of its hotels and apartment houses is of vital
importance to the City, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami Beach is
of the opinion that the enactment of the proposed legislation
will have a serious and detrimental effect upon the successful
and profitable operation of the hotels and apartment houses
within the City,
NOW, THEDEFORE, BE IT a2soLvm by the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that said City Council is
opposed to the passage of the proposed legislation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLV' ) that the Dade County members of
the Senate and House be and they are hereby requested to oppose
the enactment of the proposed legislation.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be and he is
hereby directed to forward certified copies of this resolution
to the Honorable R. B. Gautier, Jr. , Senator, and to Honorable
William C. Lantaff, Honorable George S. Okell and Honorable
Grant Stockdale, Members of the House, from Dade County.
