Resolution 7100 RESOLUTION NO. 7100
WHEREAS, The Greyhound Corporation has applied to the
Interstate Commerce Commission for permission to acquire owner-
ship and operation of Southeastern Greyhound Lines, a motor bus
common carrier serving between Jacksonville and Marianna, Florida,
via Lake City, Live Oak and Tallahassee, and
WHEREAS, The Greyhound Corporation, in its ownership and
operation of Florida Greyhound Lines and Teche Greyhound, is now
serving substantially all of peninsular Florida and parts of
west Florida with direct Greyhound service as a part of the
nation-wide network of Greyhound motor bus carriage, and
WHEREAS, acquisition of the ownership and operation of
Southeastern Greyhound Lines will bring to Miami Beach the bene-
fits of direct nation-wide Greyhound services, which direct
connections are now enjoyed by many towns and places in this
State, and
WHEREAS, competition in nation-wide motor bus service
in Florida occurs between the Greyhound carriers on the one hand
and Trailway carriers on the other, with Southeastern Greyhound
Lines a connecting carrier of Greyhound companies, competition
will not be stifled or impaired by the proposed acquisition and
control of Southeastern Greyhound Lines, but on the other hand
will probably be stimulated and promoted, and
WHEREAS, it is patently in the interest of the public
of the north Florida territory now served by Southeastern Grey-
hound Lines and in the interests of the traveling public of
Miami Beach, traveling by either the Lake City or Tallahassee
gateway, to have available at those junction points direct
Greyhound services, and
WHEREAS, the principal issue involved in the proposed
application is public interest and not a decision as between
competing carriers,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida:
That this organization support and approve the application
of The Greyhound Corporation for permission to acquire and
operate Southeastern Greyhound Lines;
