Gonzalez I ~t~c~ City Manager 1125 WEST AVENUE IMPLOSION Date: January 16, 2003 On Sunday, February 2, 2003, the Charles E. Smith residential company will be imploding the nine story vacant apartment building at 1125 West Avenue to clear the site for the future development and construction of a parking garage for the Mirador residents. City staff has been coordinating with representatives of the Charles E. Smith company to facilitate the implosion and assure safety for the public, our visitors and residents. The implosion will require West Avenue from 10th Street to 13th Street to be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic for a period of 2 hours prior and I ~ hours after the planned 4:00 p.m. implosion. This is a required and precautionary public safety measure. Charles E. Smith has contracted with Raider Corporation that specializes in implosions and excavation activities and has detailed the safety perimeter, precautionary measures and the dust control report. Additionally, Raider has described the methodology that is employed that will minimize any adverse impact on neighboring buildings and will expedite the clean-up process.
