City Manager
1125 WEST AVEI~UEtJ IMPLOSION
Date: January 16, 2003
On Sunday, February 2, 2003, the Charles E. Smith residential company will be imploding
the nine story vacant apartment building at 1125 West Avenue to clear the site for the
future development and construction of a parking garage for the Mirador residents.
City staff has been coordinating with representatives of the Charles E. Smith company to
facilitate the implosion and assure safety for the public, our visitors and residents. The
implosion will require West Avenue from 10th Street to 13th Street to be closed to vehicular
and pedestrian traffic for a period of 2 hours prior and 1% hours after the planned 4:00
p.m. implosion. This is a required and precautionary public safety measure.
Charles E. Smith has contracted with Raider Corporation that specializes in implosions and
excavation activities and has detailed the safety perimeter, precautionary measures and
the dust control report. Additionally, Raider has described the methodology that is
employed that will minimize any adverse impact on neighboring buildings and will expedite
the clean-up process.
If you have any questions, please contact me or Assistant City Manager Christina M.
Cuervo.
