SITE TYPE: 1B CHRONOLOGY: Glades II-III
SITE DESCRIPTION: This site is directly north and adjoining the Surfside
midden (Da21) . The site has been extensively worked and reported by
other investigators (Small 1929 : 94-99 , Squires 1941 :45-46, Willey 1949 : 49-8
According to Small the mound was 100 feet in diameter and higher than
the village site. Goggin reports that "Burials were usually a bundle
of bones in no order, but some were primary extended burials. Secondary
burials included bundle, single skull , and massed skull burials. Some
bundle burials showed evidence of cremation in situ (Willey 1_949) . The
skeletal material was usually in good condition with very massive bones
and thick crania. "
Only one burial , taken out by Karl Squires, is known to have had
an accompanying artifact, a shell ring. However, in the "spoil',of the
Federal excavations in this site, there were found two Busycon picks A.
