On June 6, 2018, the City Commission unanimously passed Resolution No. 2018-30345, urging Miami-Dade County to expand its recycling bin pilot program in the City of Miami Beach to provide an additional 350 recycling bins for the City's beaches, from 141h Street to 8th Terrace, sponsored by Commissioner Michael Gongora. On July 2, 2018 , the City Clerk received a response from Tom Morgan, Chief of Operations Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department (PROS) on this matter. Mr. Morgan stated that research indicates that it will cost the PROS Department approximately $400,000 to start up the recycling program, to include the purchase of the recycling cans, equipment and staff. The estimated annual cost for years 2 -4 is $196,000. The County currently does not have funding in the FY 18-19 budget for this initiative . However, the County will continue to explore ways to fund the implementation of the resolution, including a possible partnership with the City of Miami Beach for a cost sharing arrangement.
