A Nippy New Year's At Nikki's CAN MAKE
By Jenny Esquijarosa
Burrrr! The one thing my frozen lips were able to mumble as I
stood in the sand of Nikki Beach Club wearing cutest stilettos
and the warmest fury coat. (Note to self: Sand, stilettos, and 30
degree weather not a winning fashion combo.)
On the eve of the last day of 2000, Ocean Drive magazine and
Nikki Beach Club teamed up in an extraordinary effort to
celebrate a spectacular New Year with drinks. food, fireworks,
and portable heaters. Despite the frigid temperature, the crowd
poured on to the seashore ringing in 2001 in chic fashion and
unforgettable style.
Although my fingers and toes were in deep-freeze mode, the
stereo-typical model girls and boys were outfitted in simple
dental floss ensembles most likely conceived by Donatella or
Giorgio. Maintaining their bodies warm with vodka tonics and
Marlboro lights was the winning strategy established on an
evening such as this.
As the clock struck midnight, the masses gathered on the make
shift dance floor for the count down, as the traditional Times
Square ball dropped on the large screen placed directly on the
beach, onlookefs raised their frozen glasses and cheered with
delight. After the stroke of midnight, the celebration of the mass
retreated to the nearest bar and a warm huddle near the dance
floor.
All and all, the chilly weather was not enough to put a damper
on this New Year's fete.
Space Rings In A New Year

What better way to bring in the New Year, and argumentatively
the first year of the millennium, then attending a celebration at
the hottest club in downtown, Club Space. Full beyond capacity.
and blowing up with phenomenal music from 15 DJ's including
resident DJ Edgar V., Stefan Luke. Radimus, Oscar G., Michael
Storm, Evano Bellini, and many more, Club Space was a little
oven of overjoyed bodies.

•lthough Club Space in Downtown Miami did not have a huge
elebrity presence this New Year's Eve weekend, the turnout
.lone was well worth mentioning! Making my arrival at 4 AM,
soot-staff was well aware that the mad rush had yet to take
place. With over 6.000 people making their way in and out the
Narehouse doors, the staff and management team was more
han ready for such a massive cattle call.
Being an after hours virgin (usually giving in around 6 AM), I
•ecided to venture to the land of the"late fighters" and keep
soing till the afternoon (2:30 PM to be exact!). As beautiful
model types and rival club staff rolled in near sunrise, the music
ransformed from Latin beats to house and trance. Finding the
-nergy to continue never appeared to be an issue as hundreds

he morning. From a dancing girl in a butterfly tulle skirts, to a
king and queen holding court near the DJ booth. the crowd was.

Lush New Year at Level.
By Debra Espinosa
he true Millennium was brought in with a bang at Level
nightclub this Sunday, December 31st. For the third time this
ear the entire club was transformed into a picture of pure
1970's decadence and indulgence at their themed New Years
Eve party, Level 2054: A Tribute to Studio. The crowd was
•lamorous, the staff was hyped, and the rooms were bumping

he ultimate New Years bash.
he highlight of the event was the decor of the club. The main
oom could have easily been mistaken for the actual Studio 54
in the days of Disco. The walls were adorned with glitter and

.lam, which set off the live dancers on stage presenting

ooms were also gleaming with the feeling of extravagance and

he staff played their part of Disco dolls; all dressed up or down
o match the overall attitude of the entire evening. The crowd
filled the rooms of Level with excitement and glamour for the
New Year; however, not many fulfilled the role of CE70's disco
hic by dressing to match the theme.
Overall the night was a success except for the amount of people
ithin the club. The venue was oversold to the point of trampling
-nd mob melee. The rooms became uncomfortably crammed
-nd walking from room to room became a mission to survive the
rush of the crowd. Complaints were heard from those at VIP
ables of the negligence of the bouncers to keep non-paying
ustomers out of their area.
hese mishaps could have dampened the evening but the
.tmosphere was so electric that nothing could have hindered
he overall mood. The night was filled with glitter, glamour, and
•orgeous people, which all came together to make this New
ear's a night to remember and repeat.
Tantra Tantalizes the New Year
By: Debra Espinosa
New Year's at the plush and exotic restaurant Tantra was rung
in with the elegance and the fervor that is hard to find on such a
ighly publicized night. The small and cozy venue was
ransformed into a scene out of a quaint Middle Eastern
restaurant with its perfectly set decor and lighting. The staff was
here to please its patrons and assist everyone's New Year's
antasy. New Year's at Tantra was a seductive and steamy
-vening filled with desires and fulfillment.
he staff made sure that the New Years revelers were
omfortable and joyful to bring in the Millennium. The door staff
as cheery despite the bitter cold and exuded the feeling of fun
-nd fancy to its patrons. The General Manager, Terry. added to
he evening with his charm and overaU concern with hosting the
perfect party. Along with the bartenders who catered to the
-very need of the partygoers.
he ambiance matched the evening in setting a relaxed,
steamy, and joyous atmosphere. Flavored smoke filled the room
ith the aromas of fruits and spices as the dim lights with a hint
•f deep red beamed to match the seductive house music that
as pumping throughout the restaurant.
antra hosted a classy yet risque New Year's Eve party, which
pleased the customers in fulfilling their every fantasy.

If there was one party that heated up Miami's New Years
celebrations; it definitely took place in the massive
outdoor/indoor club Amnesia. The atmosphere throughout the
night was electric with the help of a young, hip crowd mainly
made up of college students. It seemed almost like spring break
had invaded Amnesia except for the one factor that made the
night a little more interesting. the cold.
Ladies inside the club felt the cold. but decided against
conservative attire and showed off every bit of skin possible.
(Meaning there was a little more than eye candy to see!) The
mix of hip-hop music kept the masses on the main dance floors
all night long. Trance music took over the VIP room, which one
may think was for"Very Important People", but in reality, it was
quite impossible to move around in due to the hoards of people
that inhabited the room.
At the strike of midnight a large TV screen displayed the ball
drop on Times Square, which pretty much signified more of a
reason to party your ass off like ex-MTV VJ, Pauley Shore,
which word has was pretty busy with some ladies in the back
room.
Model James King was also in attendance hosting the event.
minus boyfriend Kid Rock. The New Year's festivity went on till
the dawn, and while some were too cold to stick around and
enjoy the craziness in the club, others just took intoxication to
another level (the bartenders were very gracious when it came
to alcohol servings) and made it a night to remember, or should
I say try to remember.
