I continue to struggle with the first fully air conditioned hotel in Miami Beach. Your company
promotion says it was Hill York that installed the first in Miami Beach hotels in 1946. (We are
talking about fully-air conditioned, not just the dining room or lounge.) Yet all other sources
have dealt with says the first fully air conditioned hotel in Miami Beach was the Martinique,
which opened in March 1947. Florida Architecture's 1947 edition lists all the contractors for
the Martinique. Under "air conditioning," it says it was installed by Miami Station Inc,. 1118
NE 2nd Ave.
You and I have been unable to link up for quite a few months. I have reached that point in
my book where I am writing about air conditioning. If you have something to show that Hill
York installed the air conditioning for the first fully-air conditioned hotel in Miami Beach, this
is the time.
