Dear Carl:
From some letters I have seen from your distinguished
friend and amuggler, Mr. Salie, I am afraid he fails to appreciate
what our organization up here has done in getting him through. . 4
lie seems to think he did it a.l). himself.
Why, thepoorfish could have been excluded on any
one of six different counts. In the first place, we had to
square him for being a bigamist; next, he was under suspicion
as a smuggler. All the time, he was from a restricted zone. ,.
Moreover, vie got permission to bring him in and then
he brought his son with him. In short, we had a hell of a
time.
It was only by the grr co of God and Jim Davis 's friend-
ship for you and me that we got him in at al].. 1's it was, he
has had lenient and friendly attention all through.
I should worry what Mohamed S .).ie thinks about it,
but it is a ma':ter of concern what Car]. Grahar, Fisher thinks.
I don't want an aro].ogy from this son of a sea cook, but I euldn't
object to having one of those star sapphires with which to bedeck
my-.bo s ons.

I had a greet time et your New Year 's party and called to
tell you so the next day but you were out. I had to leave at
4:40 that afternoon.
Don't fail to have your elephant do some good stunts when
the new trainer gets down there.Tj '&_,.
I•arr returning, the Salle papers rr' ch I'rr.n': VanT)oren cent me.
Sincerely yours,
Er.'-Carl G. Fisher,
