BACKGROUND: The Police Citizen Relations Committee has discussed the ability of
the Miami Beach Police Department to meet the current challenges facing the public
safety needs of the City of Miami Beach and has concluded that there are three
important priorities that need to be funded:
• Continued Expansion of the License Plate Reader System to include priority
locations at the entrances/exits to the City and on the major thoroughfares of the
City ;
• Continued expansion of the City's security camera system to include additional
security cameras in the Entertainment District, add security cameras along the
Beach Walk from 14th Place to the 2300 Block , and additional security cameras in
the City's business districts;
• The replacement I completion of the Middle Beach Beach Walk , including the
removal of the remaining wooden portions of the Boardwalk and building the
replacement Beach Walk.
MOTION: The consensus of the Committee is to approve funding for these public safety
initiatives either through the G.O. Bond proposal or FY 18 / 19 Budget process.
