LTC# 405-2018 LETTER TO COMMISSION TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of the City Commissio, FROM: DATE: July23,2018 SUBJECT: 5775 Collins Avenue Incident Shortly after 10 a.m., we were notified that the building at 5775 Collins Avenue had collapsed. We have confirmed that there was a demolition permit issued for this building. One person was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital and is reportedly in critical condition. Miami Beach Police and Fire have been on the scene conducting life safety searches and will continue these efforts until we are certain the site is deemed clear. Our Building Inspectors have confirmed that the adjacent buildings were not impacted by the collapse and are safe. Traffic on Collins Avenue remains severely impacted. Collins Avenue NB has now been opened until 56 Street. Collins Avenue SB is closed at 63 Street. With proof of residency, those living between 5875 and 63 Street will be allowed to access their buildings. Currently there is limited access to residents that live between 56 Street and 58 Street. We are working with Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental Management to provide air quality monitoring. Mayor Gelber had anticipated providing a conference call update to the Commissioners, however, as the item was placed on the agenda for Wednesday, he was unable to do so due to the Sunshine Law.
