Resolution 7433 RESOLUTION NO. 7+33
WHEREAS, pursuant to a recent order of the Safety or Traffic
Director of the City of Miami, Florida, the several Jitney Sedan
Services operating between the cities of Miami Beach and Miami have
been required to give up their former Miami route and down-
town Miami terminus , and run instead south along Biscayne Boulevard
to a new terminus in the southeast Second Avenue and Southeast Third
Avenue area; and
WHEREAS, these operators have been limited to only two stops on
Biscayne Boulevard; and
IEREAS, these several Jitney Sedan Services have been used and
depended upon for many years by residents of both Miami and Miami
Beach, and because of this re-routing these thousands of passengers
have been seriously inconvenienced and often forced to use other
means of transportation to reach their destinations;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, that we do hereby request the properly
constituted officials of the City of Miami to make a strenuous effort
to restore to these Jitney Sedan Services a terminal located closer
to the downtown Miami shopping area and/or in the event it proves
inexpedient to take them off the Biscayne Boulevard route, that they
be afforded the same courtesy extended to the buses of the Miami
Beach Railway Company, which we understand are allowed to make stops
at every other street intersection.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 24th day of January, A. D. 1951.
