Resolution 7511 RESOLUTION NO. 7511
WHEREAS, it has been made known to the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that _X. FRANK KATZENTINE,
a citizen, resident and former official of the City of Miami
Beach and his wholly owned corporation, WK. T, INC. , which
corporation is the owner of aadio Station WKAT, have applied
to the Federal Communications Commission for a grant of one
of the two channels available to be allocatedin the Miami
Beach area for the operation of television broadcasting, and
WHEREAS, it has been the experience of the officials of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that Radio Station WKAT has
consistently, since its installation in 1937, filled a long
felt need for a radio broadcasting station which would devote
such of its broadcasting time as might be necessary in order
to serve the civic, cultural, religious and educational welfare
of the City of Miami Beach in that the said ;radio Station WKAT
has consistently made its services available to those programs
which have fostered and served the civic, cultural, religious
and educational welfare of the community, discharging its civic
responsibility and recognizing its obligations to the community
without reservation, and
WHEREAS, there is now operated in the City of Miami, a
municipality, distinct, separate and apart from the City of
Miami Beach, one television station and there is every indication
that there will be in said City of Miami at least one additional
television station, it appears to the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, that the operation of television stations
in the City of Miami, Florida, will serve no civic or other com-
munity purpose in the City of '"iami Beach, Florida, as was the
experience of the officials of the City of Miami Beach, Florida,
at the time prior to 1937, when there was no radio broadcasting
station operated within the City of Beach, Florida, and
the radio broadcasting stations normally anticipated to serve
the needs and purposes of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, were
located in the City of Miami, Florida, and
WHEREAS, the civic and community interests of the City of
Miami Beach are distinct, separate and apart from those of the
City of Miami, television stations serving the interests of the
City of Miami would not necessarily, as an incident thereto,
serve the interests of the City of Miami Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the Federal Communications
Commission by this resolution be and it is hereby urged and
solicited to award to the said UKAT, INC. and A. FRANK KATZENTINE,
one of the television channels available for the area of Miami
Beach, Florida, as it appears to the said City Council of the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, that the best interests of the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, require the installation and operation
therein of a television broadcasting station devoted primarily to
the community interests of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, and

IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk of the City of
Miami Beach, Florida, be and he is hereby directed to furnish
a copy of this resolution under the seal of the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, to 1iKAT, INC. and A. FRANK KATZENTINE, with the
request that they see to it that the attention of the Federal
Communications Commission be called to this resolution and to
the end that a true copy of this resolution be made a part of
the record of the application of the said WKAT, INC. and A. FRANK
KATZENTINE now pending before the said Federal Communications
Commission.
