RESOLUTION NO. 7610
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Miami Beach
Florida, has been advised of the contemplated passage by the
Legislaure of the State of Florida of legislation extending
the three percent (3%) tax on rent, now paid by transients,
to permanent residents renting living accommodations in the
State, and
.WHEREAS, the City Council deems such extension to be
discriminatory, unjust and unreasonably burdensome to those
permanent residents of the City of Miami Beach who are tenants,
as well as imposing an unreasonable hardship and burden upon
those property owners who rent to permanent residents of the
City, and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems the contemplated
legislation to be detrimental to the best interest of the
City of Miami Beach, as well as the State of Florida,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council that
the extension of the three percent (3%) tax on rent to include
permanent resident tenants is opposed and condemned by said
City;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senator and Representatives
from Dade County be requested to exert every effort to prevent
the passage of such legislation, and that copies of this
Resolution be sent immediately to said representatives.
