SUBJECT: Updates on Wellness Initiatives
Since the inception of the City's Wellness Program in January 2016, we have grown in leaps and
bounds spreading wellness awareness across the City. Employees are making healthier
decisions and lifestyle changes that ultimately result in a healthy workforce for the City. Through
our wellness program, administered by Humana Go365, we are able to report on employee
engagement, successes, and opportunities. Go365 provides the tools and support to help
members live healthier lives and reduce healthcare costs. As members earn more points, they
move into a higher status. Higher activity, biometric screenings, dental exams. and vision exams
are some of the main drivers in keeping members healthy as well as earning more points, which
leads to rewards.
Below we've inserted a table of engagement statistics from the inception of the Wellness Program:

Employee wellness is a top priority for us! The City has done a phenomenal job in getting
employees engaged in lifestyle changes that are beneficial not only to the employee, but to the
City as well. Below you will find our wellness program initiatives and successes.
NEW WELLNESS INITIATIVES
Wellness Room — Most recently, we have converted a Human Resources storage closet in City
Hall into a Wellness Room. It is a convenient location to which employees can retreat during their

as a mother's lactation room; The room has been in use for the past
few months primarily for employees who are injured on the job and
I require light occupational physical therapy. Employees can receive
one-on-one, personalized rehabilitation that is tailored to each
1 person's specific job functions. There are several benefits of having
this service. For instance. the City gets all the advantages of an on-
site clinic without the expense, workers' compensation savings of
:" eliminating travel and transportation expenses, and reduced
productivity losses. As of 2010. the Healthcare Reform Law required employers to "provide a
reasonable break time for an employee to express breast milk for her nursing child for one year
after the child's birth each time such employee has need to express milk." Additionally, employers
must "provide a place, other than the bathroom, that is shielded from view and free from intrusion
from co-workers and the public." The Wellness Room at City Hall achieves these requirements.
Mothers who are returning from the birth of a child can do so knowing that the City has made
provisions for them to express milk in a calm restful environment. Our goal is to have other
departments identify space for similar uses.
Shower Room — While gyms are a highly sought-after amenity for the workplace, showers are
even more important, especially in this tropical environment. As we continue to encourage
employees to lead an active lifestyle (ie. biking to work, walking breaks, mid-day group training),
it would be more of an encouragement for some if we provided a shower facility to freshen up.
We have done just that, and with the assistance of the Property Management Department, we
were able to spruce up a shower room in City Hall on the 1St floor (near the delivery area).
Wellness Champion Committee — The Wellness Champions Committee was established in
January 2018, with the mission to empower City staff with the tools necessary to create the best
version of themselves. The Committee meets monthly and provides recommendations that aim
to improve employee health and wellbeing, providing a tangible employee benefit that promotes
physical, financial and social wellbeing. There are representatives from various City departments
to represent the diversity of our employees, which is helpful when planning activities, workshops
and other wellness initiatives. The Wellness Champions Committee Chairperson reports their
progress to the Advisory Wellness Team (Human Resources/Benefits, Cigna, Humana and
Gallagher Benefits representatives. The Advisory Wellness Team develops short-term and long-
term strategies. operations plan, budget, communication tactics and provide leadership to the
Wellness Champion Committee members.

ONGOING WELLNESS INITIATIVES
NRG Group Training - We continue with our weekly wellness activities where participation is
steadily growing. Even with space constraints to hold these activities, we have found ways to
keep our popular recurring activities going.
• Corporate Bootcamp, powered by NRG Fitness (Peter Ware) - Three sessions are
conducted each Tuesday and Thursday (1:45p, 4:40p and 5:30p) at City Hall. NRG
Fitness has energized our workforce and created an extraordinary high level of
engagement that is yielding a happier. dedicated and more productive workforce.
Compared to 2017 statistics, the total members trained have increased 19% and the
average daily participation has increased by 16%.
Yoga - On Wednesdays at 5:30p (City Hall), there is an opportunity to increase flexibility and
muscle strength. improve respiration, maintain a balanced metabolism, improve athletic
performance and many other benefits at our Yoga session. With Cigna wellness dollars, we are
looking to purchase and install a canopy in the southwest corner of the garage rooftop to provide
protection from the sun and inclement weather.

Zumba — These classes provide a large calorie burn through aerobic activity done with interval
training in mind. It is both a dance class and a fitness class held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at
5:15pm (City Hall Parking Garage — Rooftop or 6'h Floor). Fernando is an awesome high energy
instructor that brings a lot of Latin flavor to each session. Whether you know how to dance or not,
this class is sure to get you moving and burning calories.
Health & Nutritional Seminars - Cigna has provided a comprehensive listing of nutritional
seminars that are available to our employees. Since October 2018, we've had 15 nutritional
seminars in various City locations with over 370 employee participants. Some of the topics
covered were Preventing Diabetes. Stress Less and Mental Health.
Financial Wellness - Another component of our Wellness Program is financial wellbeing, which
includes topics for budgeting and debt management to investing and saving to buy a house. Since
January. the City has partnered with Nationwide and ICMA-RC to conduct 457 Financial Planning
Workshops. More than 6 workshops have been held this year with more to come.
Go365 Humana Nutritionist— In June at the Men's Health Fair,
Humana introduced Michelle Stewart, a Nutrition Planner. to the .
City Miami Beach workforce. Michelle is a registered and
())
licensed dietitian and better known as "The Nutrition Planner". r

Her passion for wellness paired with her education help her stay
abreast of the latest health concerns and on the cutting edge of --
intervention. Michelle is available for one-on-one appointments
for twenty minutes with City employees twice a month. This is a
great opportunity for employees to get nutrition information that .;, ""'-
will assist them in their personal health goals.

Mercedes-Benz 5K Corporate Run began in 1985 and is well-known today as the country's
"Largest Office Party". However, it's more than just a party. Its main purpose is to promote
running and walking as a means to a fit, healthy lifestyle for people from all walks of corporate
life. The event welcomes beginners, walkers and competitive runners to shine amongst their co-
workers and perhaps lead their corporate team to victory. At this year's event (April 2018) the
City had the largest participation of employees ever, 98. What was most impressive is that we
had the fastest coed team overall among 850 corporate teams. The City's male team placed
second overall in the government category, while the female team placed 16th overall and 2nd
among other female government category teams. Our top runners are:
• Jan Knotek (17:42) — Lifeguard
• David Cupp (19:32) - Lifeguard
• Jenny Garcia (19:57) - Lifeguard
• Pilar Caurin Tortajada (24:26) — Capital Projects Coordinator

The City's Wellness Program is progressing, and we will continue to build on this platform by
soliciting the support of multilevel leadership, engaging employees, partnering with vendors that
can provide essential components of our program, and communicating our mission to have a
healthy workforce. We believe we have improved the mindset of some and changed the culture
of many to pursue a healthier lifestyle by creating a personalized strategy that gives employees
control over their health. Ultimately, a healthier workplace is happier and more productive which
benefi s both employees and employers.
