A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AMENDING RESOLUTION
NO. 8315, PASSED AND ADOPTED THE 1ST DAY OF
APRIL, A.D. 1953, PROVIDING FOR THE GENERAL
ELECTION TO BE HELD ON JUNE 2, A.D. 1953.
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA:
SECTION 1 : That Section 3 of Resolution No. 8315 be and the
same is hereby amended to read as follows :
"Section 3. That said election is hereby called
and directed to be held in the City
of Miami Beach, Florida, from 7:00 o'clock A.M.
until 7:00 o'clock P.M. on June 2, 1953, for the
purpose of electing four ( 4) city councilmen who
shall hold office for terms as provided by law,
and for the purpose of submitting the following
question:
Shall the following resolution be adopted?
"RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, there are two hospitals in the City of Miami
Beach, Florida, neither of which has, or operates emergency
ambulances, and
WHEREAS, Emergency Ambulances are operated in the City
of Miami Beach by various Funeral Homes without supervision or
requirements for trained, medical personnel, and
WHEREAS, accidents and sudden illnesses have become
more frequent, in the City of Miami Beach, with the growth
of the local and transient population, and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach attracts many elderly
people who enjoy its warm weather and sunshine, and who
suffer from serious ailments, and particularly from heart
ailments, and
WHEREAS, the City Council of Miami Beach recognizes
the need for providing facilities to protect the health,
safety and welfare of its citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, shall initiate an
Ordinance directing the City Manager and the Hospital
Commissioner of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, to cause
to be maintained by the City of Miami Beach, Florida, within
90 days from the passage of this Ordinance, an EMERGENCY
AMBULANCE SERVICE; each ambulance to be manned by a chauffeur
and an attendant, at least one of whom shall be trained in
First Aid; that each ambulance shall be equipped with a
two-way radio, oxygen, blood plasma and splints to immobilize
fractures at the scene of the accident.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that an ambulance shall be
dispatched AT THE REQUEST OF ANY RESIDENT who gives his
name and address, and states the nature of the emergency.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a duly licensed physician,
or interne shall accompany the ambulance on all calls
involving:
1. Heart Case 2. Maternity Case 3. Serious
Accident 4. Unconscious Person 5. Apparent
Death 6. Any case where, in the opinion of the
Emergency Ambulance Dispatcher, the presence of
a physician is deemed necessary.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager and the
Hospital Commissioner shall formulate such additional rules
and regulations as shall be deemed necessary to execute
the spirit and intent of this Resolution, and said rules
and regulations may provide for payment to the City of
Miami Beach for such services rendered. If any portion of this
Resolution be held invalid, the remainder thereof shall not
be affected thereby. "
SECTION 2: That Section 6 of Resolution No. 8315 be and the same
is hereby amended to read as follows:
"Section 6. That Notice of such Election shall be
in substantially the following form:
"NOTICE OF ET,RCTION
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that by resolution duly passed
and adopted by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach
a general election has been called and will be held in the
City of Miami Beach, Florida, from Seven o 'clock A.M. until
Seven o'clock P.M. , on June 2, 1953, for the purpose of
electing the following officers of said City:
Four persons as Members of the City Council who
shall hold office for terms as provided by law, and
for the purpose of submitting the following question:
Shall the following resolution be adopted?
"RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, there are two hospitals in the City of Miami

For the purpose of holding and conducting said election the City
of Miami Beach has been divided into voting precincts or election districts
with Polling Places therein as follows:
PRECINCT NO. 25-A: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the. North line of the corporate limits of
the City of Miami Beach ON THE NORTH and a line ON THE SOUTH running
westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along the center line of 71st Street
to the center line of Indian Creek; thence northerly along the center
line of Indian Creek to the center line of Normandy Waterway; thence
westerly along the center line of Normandy Waterway to Biscayne Bay, the
Polling Place of which shall be in the LIFE GUARD STATION in North Shore
Park between 72nd Street and 73rd Street on the Ocean.
PRECINCT NO. 25-B: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 25-A ON THE
NORTH and the center line of 51st Street ON THE SOUTH, the Polling Place
of which shall be at the 69TH STREET FIRE STATION, situated at 6860 Indian
Creek Drive.
PRECINCT NO. 26: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 25-B ON THE
NORTH and a line ON THE SOUTH running westerly from the Atlantic Ocean
along the center line of 34th Street to Biscayne Waterway, thence westerly
along the center line of Biscayne Waterway to Biscayne Bay, the Polling
Place of which shall be at the NORTH BEACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, situated
on the northwest corner of the intersection of 41st Street and Prairie
Avenue.
PRECINCT NO. 27: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 26 ON THE NORTH
and a line ON THE SOUTH running westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along
the center line of 23rd Street to Dade Boulevard, thence along the center
line of Dade Boulevard to Biscayne Bay, also including Belle Isle, Rivo
Alto Island, Di Lido Island and San Marino Island, the Polling Place
of which shall be at the DADE BOULEVARD FIRE STATION, situated on the
northwest corner of the intersection of Dade Boulevard and Pine Tree Drive.

PRECINCT NO. 28: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 27 ON THF NORTH
and a line ON THE SOUTH running westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along
the center line of 15th Street to Bay Road, thence South along the center
line of Bay Road to 14th Street, thence West along the center line of
14th Street to Biscayne Bay, the Polling Place of which shall be in the
SOUTHWEST LOBBY OF THE MIAMI BEACH AUDITORIUM entered from 17th Street
at Drexel Avenue.
PRECINCT NO. 29: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 28 ON THE NORTH
and a line ON THE SOUTH running westerly from the Atlantic Ocean to
Biscayne Bay along the center line of 11th Street and said line produced,
the Polling Place of which shall be at the FIRE STATION IN THE CITY HALL
BUILDING, situated on 12th Street between Washington Avenue and Drexel
Avenue.
PRECINCT NO. 30: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 29 ON THE NORTH
and a line ON THE SOUTH running westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along
the center line of 7th Street to Alton Road, thence South along the center
line of Alton Road to 6th Street, thence westerly along the center line
of 6th Street to Biscayne Bay, the Polling Place of which shall be at the
MIAMI BEACH EMPLOYEES' BENEVOLENT ASSOCIATION CLUB BUILDING, situated at
920 Alton Road.
PRECINCT NO. 31: Being the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
between the South line of Precinct No. 30 ON THE NORTH
and a line ON THE SOUTH running westerly from the Atlantic Ocean along the
center line of 3rd Street to Alton Road, thence along the south line of
Lot 32 in Block 111 of Ocean Beach Addition No. 3, to Biscayne Bay, also
including Star Island, Palm Island and Hibiscus Island, the Polling Place
of which shall be at the SOUTH BEACH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, situated between
Third and Fourth Streets on Alton Road.
PRECINCT NO. 32: Being all the area within the City of Miami Beach lying
South of the South line of Precinct No. 31, also
including the Causeway property and the islands south of the County Cause-
way, the Polling Place of which shall be at 100 ALTON ROAD.
All electors shall vote at the Polling Places in the voting precincts
in which the City Registration Books show that said electors reside.
The Registration Books of said City will be open from Nine o'clock
A.M. , until Five o'clock P.M. , each day, Sundays and Holidays excepted,
from April 2, 1953 to May 2, 1953, both inclusive, for the purpose of
registering any person qualified to vote in said election.
Only persons properly registered will be qualified to vote in said
election. "
SECTION 3: That this resolution shall be effective immediately upon its
adoption.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of April, A. D. 1953.
