the Servicemen's Information Center and Lounge which has
been maintained at the Miami Beach Auditorium during the
past year; and
WHEREAS, this Center, invigorated by its Director,
Maurice Klein, and his most gracious and competent fellow
Board members, has played host since its inception to
over nine thousand servicemen from every state in the
United States and many foreign countries, in addition to
the thousands of boys who attend the monthly stage door
canteens; and
WHEREAS, wholesome fun and recreational facilities
have been provided by the unselfish and successful
efforts of volunteers and the generosity of business
establishments and private citizens;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, the City Council
of Miami Beach, Florida, do hereby unanimously commend
the Board of Directors of the Servicemen's Information
Center and Lounge -- Maurice (Doc) Klein, Mrs. Rose Fields,
Mrs. Peggy MacKay, Mrs. Norma Spector, Miss Mattie Milan
and Mrs. Jennie Lindeman -- and its many volunteer workers.
They, through their individual contributions of time,
vision, direction, and effort, have laid the foundations
of an establishment that has provided a pleasurable haver_
for the men who are defending our principles of freedom
and democracy against the scourge of tyranny and oppression
and have given them a "home away from home" in Miami Beach.
We delight to do you honor, knowing your satisfaction
in a work of great usefulness because of its devotion to
those we all hold dear.
