Resolution 8400 RESOLUTION No . 81400
WHEREAS, D. Lee Powell has faithfully served the
City cf Miami Beach as its Mayor for the past two years
and performed the duties of this office with the highest
degree of dignity and efficiency; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Powell was a most gracious good will
emissary for our City throughout the United States and
South America where he was instrumental in furthering
the bonds of Inter-American relations and brotherhood;
and
WHEREAS, D. Lee Powell has also been active in affairs
affecting our Commonwealth as a whole and his keen insight
and wisdom were materially evidenced during his partici-
pation on the Board of the Florida League of Municipalities,
the Florida Turnpike Authority, and the Inter-American
Center Authority; and
WHEREAS, his interest in protecting the lives and
welfare of the citizens was aptly depicted by his champion-
ship of a bill recently passed by the Legislature which
provides for mandatory jail sentences for burglary con-
victions in Florida;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that a gratefu] com-
munity and the City Council of Miami Beach express their
sincere appreciation to D. Lee Powell for his vital
contributions to the progress, welfare, and development
of Miami Beach; and
I
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this Resolution be spread
upon the minutes of the City Council and that a copy be
presented to D. Lee Powell as a tangible testimonial of
our gratitude for his effective demonstration of true
public interest.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 3rd day of June, A.D. 1953.
