Resolution 9122 RESOLUTION NO. 9122 WHEREAS, the State Road Department contemplates recon- struction of the easterly viaduct of the MacArthur Causeway and has made application to the Department of the Army for a permit for said reconstruction; and WHEREAS, the application provides for a fixed bridge with a center span having a vertical clearance of thirty-seven (37) feet over mean low water; and WHEREAS, millions of vehicles travel the MacArthur Causeway annually, and a movable bridge will result in great economic loss to the traveling public; and WHEREAS, only a small percentage of the boats which now use this waterway require a vertical clearance greater than thirty-seven (37) feet; and there is a potential water route running east and west north of the Venetian Causeway extending from the mainland of Miami Beach to the intra-coastal waterway which can readily be made available for said boats. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it endorses the request of the State Road Department for a permit to do the proposed work; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Government of the United States be requested to designate the waters to the north of the Venetian Causeway and the waters between the Venetian Causeway and the MacArthur Causeway along the westerly shore of Miami Beach, a side channel to the intra-coastal waterway; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be transmitted to the District Engineer, Corps of Engineers, Jacksonville, Florida, and to our representatives in the Congress and Senate of the United States.
