OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGFR
NO LTC # 505-2018 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO, Mayor Dan Gelber and Members of th City Cor{i'mission
FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manager
DATE: September 17. 2018 l
SUBJECT: RESIDENT PARKING RATE DISC UNT AT PARKING PAY STATIONS -
UPDATE
This Letter to Commission (LTC) serves to provide an update regarding parking pay station
system upgrades to facilitate resident parking rate discount payments at parking pay stations
within municipal parking lots and curbside, in addition to Parkmobile, the City's parking
payment mobile application.
As you may recall, Miami Beach residents may register with Parkmobile. the City's
alternative payment (mobile phone/smart phone) provider. Residents receive up to a 75%
discount on parking fees and transaction fees are waived.
On September 25, 2017, the Mayor and Commission referred a discussion item to the
Neighborhoods and Community Affairs Committee(NCAC) regarding parking discounts for
residents who do not have a mobile/smartphone.
The Parking Department discussed options with T2, the City's parking pay station provider,
to provide this functionality at pay stations, in municipal lots and curbside. T2 advised that
while it had not planned this particular functionality it would include it in their next software
upgrade.
I am pleased to report that the resident parking discount is now available and functional at all
parking pay stations in municipal parking lots and curbside. Residents need only input their
license at the pay station, like any other user and the system will query their license plate
against our database of resident license plates and offer the discounted parking rate. if
applicable.
If you should have any further questions, please contact Saul Frances, Parking Department
Director at 305.673.7000, extension 6483 or via email.
