Resolution 9323 RESOLUTION NO. 9323 WHEREAS, sport and commercial fishing and the recreational use of motor boats are of great benefit to the people of the United States and an important source of business income to many citizens of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, the Inlet from the Atlantic Ocean to Biscayne Bay known as "Bakers Haulover" is of great importance for boating and fishing in south Florida; and WHEREAS, the dimensions of this Inlet are inadequate, the structures protecting it are insufficient and in poor physical condition; and WHEREAS, the navigation of this Inlet under certain adverse weather conditions is both difficult and dangerous; and WHEREAS, this situation is detrimental to the full develop- ment of the many advantages arising from the use of this Inlet; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVRT) by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that we urge the United States to adopt a Federal project for the improvement of navigation in Bakers Haulover Inlet, Florida; such project to include : (a) Widening of the eastern part of this Inlet to a width of approximately 500' ; (b) Construction of a north jetty extending approximately to the 12 ' depth contour and a south jetty of suitable but lesser length; (c) The construction and operation of a sand pumping plant to move beach sand from the north side of the Inlet to the south side, this plant to be of such type, capacity and arrangement as is required to prevent any erosion or deterioration of the sand beach south of the Inlet; (d) The dredging of a channel not less than 125' bottom width and not less than 12 ' deep at mean low water, extending from the western end of Bakers Haulover to the Intracoastal waterway; (e) The maintenance of the various works listed under (a) to (d) , above. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be sent to the U. S. District Engineer, Jacksonville District, U. S. Army.
