Resolution 9336 RESOLUTION NO. 9336
WHEREAS, there will be submitted to the voters of
Dade County at the next general election a proposed amend-
ment to the Florida Constitution commonly called "The Dade
County Home Rule Amendment", and
WHEREAS, the proposed amendment, if passed, will have
a serious impact on the government of all of Dade County,
and particularly of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS, the proposed measure would clothe the County
Commissioners with power, which in the hands of future
incompetent or irresponsible commissioners could be the
instrument for incalculable mischief, and
WHEREAS, the proposed measure, if enacted, could
result in the abolishment of any and all municipalities
in Dade County, including Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS, this proposed measure, if enacted, will be
wholly inimical to the best interests of the citizens of
Miami Beach,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach, Florida, that it is irrevocably
opposed to the adoption of the so-called "Home Rule Amend-
ment" which is to be submitted to the voters of the State
of Florida at the general election to be held on November 6,
1956, and that the citizens of the City of Miami Beach be
urged to resist the effort to pass this amendment by all
valid means in their power, and that they, in turn, urge
the voters throughout the State to do likewise .
