Resolution 9351 RESOLUTION NO. 9351
WHEREAS, the Corps of Engineers, U. S. Army is giving
consideration to the adoption of regulaticns governing
drawbridges over the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway from
the Virginia-North Carolina State Line to Key West, Florida,
and all waterways tributary thereto, which would provide
that drawbridges should not be required to open for craft
carrying appurtenances unessential for navigation, and
WHEREAS, the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway extends
through Biscayne Bay, Dade County, Florida, and
WHEREAS, all highway connections between Miami Beach
and the mainland cross the Intracoastal Waterway, and
WHEREAS, over 100,000 vehicles enter and leave Miami
Beach daily, and
WHEREAS, drawbridge openings for unessential reasons
have resulted in unnecessary delays, congestion, traffic accidents,
and tremendous economic less to the residents of Dade County,
its tourists and visitors, and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that regulations be adopted
to provide that drawbridges shall not be required to open for
craft carrying appurtenances unessential for navigation.
