RESOLUTION NG . 9527
WHEREAS, Miss Bertha Aldrich has been Head Librarian
of the Miami Beach Public Library since June 27th, 1927, when
the Library was operated by the Women' s Club of Miami Beach,
and supported financially by the City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, she has continued as Head Librarian until
the present time ; and
WHEREAS, during all these years Miss Aldrich has
given unstintingly of her time and effort, and worked many
hours beyond the call of the position; and
WHEREAS, Miss Aldrich has been under great nervous
strain for the past several months; and
WHEREAS, a survey of the Miami Beach Public
Library, made by John Hall Jacobs of the New Orleans Public
Library, indicates that there is a great deal of work to be
done to implement the recommendations contained in the Report
of the Survey; and
WHEREAS, the members of the Board of Trustees
of said Library have recommended that the said Miss Bertha
Aldrich should be relieved for the term of one year from the
arduous work which will be required, and that during said year
she devote such time to research work as, in her opinion, is
required to enable her to better perform her duties upon her
return; and
WHEREAS, the City Council deems it to be to the
best interest of the City to comply with such recommendation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that Miss Bertha Aldrich be
and she is hereby granted leave for one year from the duties
incumbent upon her as Head Librarian of the Miami Beach Public /($5,520. )
Library, and that she be paid the sum of Five Thousand Five Hundred Twent
Dollars for research work to be performed by her for the City
at such time and at such place or places as shall, in her sole
discretion, be required, such compensation to be made out of funds
of the City of Miami Beach available for such purpose .
