RESOLUTION NO. 9601
WHEREAS the Metropolitan County Commission did on the
16th day of August, 1957, conduct a public hearing prior to
adopting Chapter 5 of Metropolitan ordinances, creating a "Public
Works Department"; and
WHEREAS, during the course of said public hearing, a
representative and spokesman for a representative group of citizens
of the City of Miami Beach appeared in opposition to the adoption
of said ordinances, and voiced particular objection to the provision
of said ordinance providing for said Public Works Department to
regulate and control water supply and distribution systems; and
WHEREAS it has been made to appear in a daily newspaper
that the attorney for the Metropolitan County Commission stated in
response to the foregoing objection that he believed that "Miami
Beach officials want the County to take over the water supply"; and
WHEREAS such statement is contrary to fact and utterly
contrary to the true will and desire of the City Council of the City
of Miami Beach and its responsible administrative officials; and
WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach has invested millions of
dollars in its water supply and distribution system and has at all
times maintained the same with the highest possible degree of
economy and efficiency, and
WHEREAS no cause exists for any change in the present
relationship between the City of Miami Beach and the City of Miami
with reference to water supply and distribution;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it denies that any
authorized official of the City of Miami Beach advocated or
encouraged any assumption or change of control, or interference
with the present relationship between the City of Miami and the City
of Miami Beach relating to the supply and distribution of water; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that it is unalterably opposed to and
expressly decries any attempt by the Metropolitan County Commission
to exercise or attempt to exercise any measure or degree of control
or interference with the sup ly of water by the City of Miami to
the City of Miami Beach.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
furnished to each of the daily newspapers circulated in Dade County,
and to each of the Dade County Commissioners.
PASSED AND ADOPTED this 4th day of September , A.D. 1957.
