A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA ACCEPTING THE
RECOMMENDATION OF THE DISABILITY ACCESS COMMITTEE,
AND APPROVING AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
EXECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT, IN THE AMOUNT OF $25,000,
WITH POWER ACCESS, INC., TO FUND THE SOUTH BEACH JAZZ
FESTIVAL, AND FURTHER AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO
EXECUTE ANY AND ALL DOCUMENTS OR AGREEMENTS IN
CONNECTION WITH THIS GRANT.
WHEREAS, at the May 15, 2018 meeting of the Disability Access Committee (the
"Committee "), the Committee adopted a motion recommending that the City Commission
provide funds for the South Beach Jazz Festival (the "Festival ") in the amount of $25,000, from
funds provided to the City by the Miami -Dade County Municipal Parking Fines Reimbursement
Program; and
WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade County Municipal Parking Fines Reimbursement Program
is intended to improve accessibility and equal opportunity to qualified persons who have
disabilities in a municipality, and to conduct public awareness programs in a municipality
concerning persons who have disabilities; and,
WHEREAS, each musical performance of the Festival will showcase the artistry of at
least one person with a disability, to promote the Festival's dual goals: to entertain, and to
define others by ability rather than disability. The Festival meets the goals of the Miami -Dade
County Municipal Parking Fines Reimbursement Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City
Commission hereby accept the recommendation of the Disability Access Committee, and
approve and authorize the City Manager to execute a grant agreement, in the amount of
$25,000, with Power Access, Inc., to fund the South Beach Jazz Festival, and further authorize
the City Manager to execute any and all documents or agreements in connection with this grant.

SUBJECT: A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, ENDORSING THE MAY 15, 2018 MOTION MADE BY THE DISABILITY ACCESS COMMITTEE
REGARDING THE SOUTH BEACH JAZZ FESTIVAL.
ANALYSIS
Please place on the July 25 Commission meeting, an endorsement of the motion made by the Disability Access Committee
recommending that the City endorse funding for the South Beach Jazz Festival as a disability awareness event. The organization
is making a request for up to $25,000. The Budget Department has informed me that this request will be fulfilled by an existing
grant for disability related event(s). Ajazz festival unlike any other, the South Beach Jazz Festival takes pride in featuring talented
musicians with disabilities. Over that weekend, open -air performances by local ensembles will draw residents and visitors to
Lincoln Road to linger, listen and groove. Even more significantly, the festival musicians will raise public awareness of persons
