City of Miami Beach, 1700 Convention Center Drive, Miami Beach FL 33139
LTC# 524-2018 LETTER TO COMMISSION
TO: Mayor Dan Gelber and Members
FROM: Jimmy L. Morales, City Manag
DATE: October 1, 2018
SUBJECT: Deconstruction of Boardwalk Pavili ns
The purpose of this Letter to Commission (L TC) is to provide the Mayor and Commission with
an update from the direction given at the Neighborhoods/Community Affairs Committee Meeting
of September 26, 2018.
On October 5, 2018, the Property Management Department will begin the dismantling and
removal of pavilions located along the boardwalk at:
• 25th Street
• 31 st Street
• 38th Street
• 41 st Street
• 43rd Street
• 45th Street
The pavilions were originally slated for demolition in spring 2019 as part of the Middle Beach
Recreational Corridor (MBRC), Beachwalk Phase Ill project. This project consists of
constructing approximately 3,500 linear feet of an on-grade pedestrian walkway and
demolishing the existing wooden boardwalk, City blocks in the middle coastal area of Miami
Beach between 24th street to 45th street to provide connections and support alternative
transportation throughout the City.
Their current condition as evidenced in Attachment A, as well as numerous concerns brought by
neighbors have warranted the need to expedite their deconstruction. Property Management is
diligently working with City contractors to dismantle the tents expeditiously and with minimal
disruption to residents and visitors. The tents and benches will be removed commencing this
week and expected to continue through the month of October.
If you wish to discuss, please let me know before October 5, 2018. Otherwise, the Property
Management will commence deconstruction as indicated.
