Resolution 9978 RESOLUTION NO. 9978
WHEREAS Collins Avenue constitutes an economic
life line of the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS the economic welfare of the State of Florida
and of the City of Miami Beach is closely interwoven and
interrelated, and
WHEREAS traffic congestion and hazards presently
existing thereon are becoming progressively more critical
and aggravated, and will become intolerable upon the comple-
tion of the 36th Street Causeway, and
WHEREAS, in view of the foregoing the widening and
paving of Collins Avenue, particularly that portion thereof
lying approximately between the northerly line of Lot 17
of INDIAN BEACH CORPORATION 'S SUBDIVISION, according to the
Plat thereof recorded in Plat Book 8 at page 61 of the
Public Records of Dade County, Florida, and that property
commonly known as the Bath Club, is an imperative and im-
perious necessity, and
WHEREAS, in recognition of the foregoing, the City
Council of the City of Miami Beach has directed the City
Manager to utilize the City 's engineering and planning
facilities to the utmost to evolve practicable modes and
means for the betterment and eventual solution of the situa-
tion, and
WHEREAS the City Manager and City Engineer has
evolved alternative plans therefore, all as is more fully
set forth in detail in the attached tentative drafts thereof,
which are incorporated herein by reference, and
WHEREAS the City Council of the City of Miami Beach
is seeking ways and means of implementing whatever plan may
be determined to be the most feasible through agreements
with abutting property owners for the defrayment of the cost
of land acquisition, bulkheading, filling, streetlighting,
sanitary sewers and sidewalks incident thereto, and
WHEREAS such agreements may not be reached unless
the State Road Department commits itself to the appropriation
and expenditure of necessary funds for the widening, paving
and drainage of said portion of Collins Avenue,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the State Road
Department be and it is hereby requested to appropriate and
set aside in its annual Budget for the year commencing
the first day of July, 1959, sufficient funds for the widen-
ing, paving and drainage of that portion of Collins Avenue
hereinabove described, and to extend its full cooperation
in the commencement and completion of said project with all
due speed, and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that certified copies of this
Resolution be transmitted to William D. Singer, member of
the State Road Department, and to the State Road Department
in Tallahassee, Florida, and to the District Engineer of
the State Road Department at Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
