Miami Beach United Resolution 12q
R7-V Potential Advertising Revenue Streams
October 15, 2018
Miami Beach United would like to reiterate our position, submitted previously.
Understanding that finding alternative sources of revenue for the City is a worthy undertaking, Miami
Beach United supports innovative initiatives like thoughtful co-branding/licensing deals which can
elevate the brand and image of the City. We also support initiatives to sell the naming rights to the
Miami Beach Convention Center.
However, Miami Beach United continues to unequivocally oppose ANY advertising options in the
public right of way, whether on the exterior of parking garages or on the Fleet Building. Billboards are
NOT allowed in the City of Miami Beach now, nor have they been for many years. Permitting
advertising denigrates the character of the City, and affects the quality of life for its
residents. Moreover, reversing course to permit advertising goes against global trends of cleaning up
urban visual pollution. While we are a cosmopolitan global destination, we are still only a seven-mile
barrier island, not Manhattan, Hong Kong, Tokyo, etc., and billboards of any kind have no place in
our small city.
