WHEREAS a general election will be held in the City
of Miami Beach on the 6th day of June, 1961, for the election
of four (4) Councilmen of the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach maintains a permanent
registration system for the registration of the citizens of
Miami Beach who shall become, or are eligible to participate,
as electors, in municipal elections of the City of Miami Beach,
and
WHEREAS it is anticipated that a substantial number of
citizens eligible to become duly qualified electors of the
City of Miami Beach will register at the City Hall of Miami
Beach for the said general election to be held on June 6, 1961,
and
WHEREAS it is manifestly inconvenient and constitutes
a needless hardship and expense for a majority, if not all
persons residing in the City of Miami Beach, to proceed to the
City of Miami for the purpose of registering at the office of
the Dade County Supervisor of Registration for the purpose of
becoming duly qualified electors in national, state and county
elections, and
WHEREAS it would be to the best interests of democratic
national, state, county, and municipal government to remove, as
near as may be reasonably possible, all needless hardship
incident to registration, such as physical hardship, transportation
problems and expense, and loss of time from employment, and
WHEREAS the Dade County Supervisor of Registration is
empowered by the provisions of Section 98.281, Florida Statutes
1959, to appoint deputy supervisors of registration in settled
sections of the County, inclusive of the City of Miami Beach,
to accept registration of qualified persons,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF
THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, that the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach does hereby request the County Commissioners of
Dade County to authorize the County Supervisor of Registration
to designate and appoint one or more suitable persons to serve
as deputy supervisors of registration in the City Hall of the
City of Miami Beach during the authorized period of registration
for said municipal election up to and including May 6, 1961,
and such additional period as may be determined to be suitable
and proper for the purpose of enabling citizens of the City of
Miami Beach to register simultaneously for State, County and
Municipal elections, and that the Dade County Board of County
Commissioners further authorize the County Supervisor of
Registration to consider the desirability of appointing and
designating duly qualified City registration personnel as such
Deputy Supervisors of Registration.
