RESOLUTION NO. 10731
WHEREAS, the projected East-West Expressway for Dade County,
Florida contemplates the inclusion of MacArthur Causeway as a
component element thereof, and
WHEREAS, Fifth Street in the City of Miami Beach merges
into and is an integral part of MiFcArthur Causeway, and
WHEREAS, MacArthur Causeway and Fifth Street constitute a
vital portal to and from the City of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS, the present seventy (70) foot right of way for
Fifth Street is now and long has been grossly inadequate for
the amount of traffic carried thereon, and
WHEREAS, the construction of the said East-West Expressway
will, for the reasons aforesaid, mandatorily require the widen-
ing of Fifth Street to a width of not less than one hundred (100)
feet, and
WHEREAS, such widening of Fifth Street will, in addition
to facilitating the efficient utilization of said East-West
Expressway, will aid in the development of the Southern portion
of the City of Miami Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT UNANIMOUSLY RESOLVED BY THE CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH that the Metropolitan Dade
County Commission be and it is hereby requested to commence
acquiring the necessary right of way for the said widening
of Fifth Street, and to commence the construction of said
thoroughfare widening during the 1962-1963 fiscal year.
