A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL
STEPS NECESSARY AND TO ENTER INTO ANY AGREEMENTS,
ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY MANAGER AND CITY ATTORNEY, THAT MAY
BE REQUIRED IN ORDER TO ENTER INTO A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE
COLGATE-PALMOLIVE COMPANY FOR ITS BRIGHT SMILES, BRIGHT
FUTURES PROGRAM TO PROVIDE FREE DENTAL SCREENINGS FOR
CHILDREN AT CITY PARK FACILITIES.
WHEREAS, the Colgate-Palmolive Company (Colgate) provides a Bright Smiles, Bright
Futures Program that provides free dental screenings to school children worldwide; and
WHEREAS, the Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Program is among the most far-
reaching, successful children's oral health initiatives in the world. Through its partnerships with
governments, schools, and communities, Colgate Bright Smiles, Bright Futures has reached more
than 900 million children and their families across 80 countries with free dental screenings and oral
health education; and
WHEREAS, in the United States, Colgate's classroom curriculum reaches nearly 3.5 million
children in all 50 states, and more than 10 million children through its grassroots van program.
Worldwide, Colgate has reached over 1 billion children through its various educational and dental
outreach programs; and
WHEREAS, in order to promote healthy lifetime habits and oral health education among our
City's youth, Colgate has offered to partner with the City of Miami Beach to bring a mobile dental van
staffed with volunteer dental professionals to our City park facilities; and
WHEREAS, the Colgate dental screening would be provided free of charge to our City's youth
and would serve an important health benefit in our community. Therefore, the City Manager should be
authorized to take all steps necessary and to enter into any agreements, acceptable to the City
Manager and City Attorney, that may be required in order to enter into a partnership with Colgate for
its Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Program in the City of Miami Beach.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Mayor and City Commission hereby authorize
the City Manager to take all steps necessary and to enter into any agreements, acceptable to the City
Manager and City Attorney, that may be required in order to enter into a partnership with the Colgate-
Palmolive Company for its Bright Smiles, Bright Futures Program to provide free dental screenings for
children at City park facilities.

RECOMMENDATION
Pursuant to the request of Commissioner John Elizabeth Aleman, the above-referenced Resolution is
submitted for consideration by the Mayor and City Commission at the October 17, 2018 Commission
meeting.
