Meeting Minutes

Called to order at 1:00 p.m.
Ongoing Business:
A. Approval of the May 8, 2018 minutes, Motion: Riki Wilchins, second: Dale Stine
B. MBPD Updates - Juan introduces Manny Valdez as replacement next year
Manny introduces himself. 10 second moment of silence for Pulse. Juan updates on Pride
attack enhanced hate crime charge. Ordered New Safe Space stickers.
C. GMCVB / social media updates – Josie Llado and Rolando Aedo spoke on behalf of
the GMCVB. They said that George is retiring and his position is open. Considering
dedicated LGBTQ marketing portfolio. They want to remain active on committee. The
Committee would love for them to stay active and keep them informed.

New Business:
A. Erick Chiroles, Commissioner Arriola’s aide visited the meeting-
He said the LGBTQ Crosswalk on Ocean Drive will hopefully open the 3 rd
week in September and we should think about a possible ribbon cutting.
Gayle Durham asked for Commissioner Arriola’s support for the Diversity Art
Installation at the Finance and Citywide Projects Committee mee ting. The
Committee is recommending $300,000 and Commissioner Micky Steinberg
(the sponsor) thinks it should be $50,000.

1) HRC Rating (Dale, Herb, Cindy, Liz). HRC Rating (Dale, Herb, Cindy, Liz)
Dale: Working to submit by July 1
Cindy: Will bring items that city needs to next meeting
Dale commended Commissioner Gongora on gender neutral ordinance

Gale: Diversity Art Installation
Need help with nudging The Neighborhood/Community Affairs Committee
Possible locations: Lincoln Road, Ocean Drive, or Convention Center Park. Motion
on location: Elizabeth Schwartz consensus for project on Lincoln Road, alternative
Convention Center Park. Second: Cindy Brown. All Approved. Include LTC.
3) Health and Wellness (Ricki, Jamie, Craig, David, Robin)
4) Ad Hoc committee on LGBTQ Sponsorships (Robin, Liz, David, Cindy). Robin: City
requiring training for anybody. Robin ends ad hoc committee asks for update on
training.
Robin Schwartz made an announcement: Aqua Foundation League of Voters Series.
July 18th at Miami Theater Center in Miami Shores.
