Resolution 10953 RESOLUTION NO. 10953
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH, FLORIDA that the Legislature of the State of Florida
be formally advised of the urgent and compelling need of
funds by municipalities wholly dependent upon tourism for
their existence and being, to meet the tremendous competitive
pressures of foreign resort areas, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the fairest and most equitable
source of revenue for such purpose is upon the industry which
will be the greatest beneficiary of the expenditure thereof,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Legislature of
the State of Florida be and it is hereby respectfully and
earnestly petitioned to enact appropriate legislation at the
current session of the Legislature authorizing and permitting
municipalities to adopt ordinances levying and imposing a
"resort tax" in an amount not in excess of two (2%) percent
of the revenue derived from hotel and motel rooms occupied
by transient guests, and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that a copy of this Resolution be
transmitted to the Senators and members of the House of
Representatives from the County of Dade.
