Resolution 10982 RESOLUTION NO. 10982
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach is dependent upon
its tourist industry, and
WHEREAS, Metro originally represented that it would
effect a saving to the citizens of this community, and
WHEREAS, under private operation the bus fare was
15 cents or two trips for 25 cents, and
WHEREAS, Metro has now proposed to increase the fare
to 20 cents per trip, and
WHEREAS, this increased fare would be higher than in
any other area in the county, and
WHEREAS, this increased fare would discriminate
against the citizens of Miami Beach and the tourists who
come into the Miami Beach area, and
WHEREAS, this increase will impose a discriminatory
economic hardship upon the citizens of Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS, Miami Beach pays about 20% of the total taxes
of Dade County and receives back in county services only a
minute portion of that contribution,
NOW, THEREFORE, be it hereby resolved that the Metro
Commissioners and the Metro Manager be informed that the
City Council of the City of Miami Beach has strong objections
to the fare increase and urges immediate reconsideration of
such increase.
PASSED and ADOPTED this 15th day of May, 1963.
