Here's a Summer Recap!
SUN'MER 20 I 8 I 3
By Lourdes Bouquet, SRYC
During the summer I went to Scott
Rakow Youth Center. I had a ton of fun!
They had so many activities planned for
me and my friends like wacky tacky.
This game is about going into your
closet and picking the craziest things to
wear. You can wear wear things like a
clown wig and funky long socks . It's a
lot of fun, but wait, there's more!
There are more events like super hero
day, where you pick a favorite super
hero and dress up like them. Later in the
day, they called us into the gym and we
presented the superhero and what their
superpower was.
Another spec i al event we did was
Hawaiian Day. A whole day where we
learned all about Hawaiian traditions .
4 I M B KIDS SCOOP
There were hula
dancers that came
and taught us about
their culture .
They also taught us
how to hula dance,
which was exciting.
Throughout the
summer we did other
special events, such
as, Rakow's got
Talent, Coaches Lip
Sync Battle and Deal
or No Deal.
"All the events
that we hoc# at
comp is what
mocle the summer
so much fun!"

Once a week, it's good to exercise.
Swimming helps you with staying
in shape and fitness. You can swim
a bit faster and get good exercise
when learning how to swim .
Last summer, after our lesson with
the lifeguards we were able to
enjoy some free play in the water.
I enjoyed playing with my friends .
It was so much fun .
Swimming is fitness that you can
play and get exercise at the same
time. You should try it out!

YOUR COACH
By George LaPrilla, Miami Beach Teen Club
What was your previous
work experience before
joining Scott Rakow?
I was a pool attendant at the Loews
hotel on south beach.
What is your favorite sport
and why?
My favorite sport is basketball . I'm
just naturally good at it.
Have you had any
experience working in
Parks & Recreation?
Yes. I worked as a CIT {Counselor
i n Training) for 3 years. I worked at
three different parks during this time,
North Shore, Teen Club, and
Scott Rakow.
What is your favorite activity
to play with the campers?
I like to play basketball with the kids
because basketball has always been
my sport. I feel like I could teach the
kids how to play basketball being
that I know it so well.
What is your favorite special
event you have worked at
Scott Rakow?
My favorite event is the one we do
for Halloween . The haunted house is
the best and of course the costumes.

My sister lives in LA how can I be closer to her?
If you hove a relative that is for, but you wont
to get to them, what do you do? Well, what I
would do is focetime, toll and even text. Pion
a visit with them so you could talk and get to
know them better. You might be for, but with the
technology that we have, there should never be
anything stopping horn talking to them.

How can we change how much we litter ?
If you don't like to litter or see people litter then start telling them to
recycle . Not only for you, but for the environment. Oid you know that the
things that you are throwing in the trash bins are goi ng to the already over·
filled landfills? These landfills take up a lot of space. Recycling is better for
I the environment.

How can I be better at baseball?
Practicing! Practice with your parents
at home. Then, practice with your
friends at school.

How should I help my mom with this mean
landlord. There is a leak in our apartment and
the landlord won't do anything to help. How
con I do to help my mom?
How I would help my mom with this landlord
is by gathering everyone in the building
and ask them ~ they ore o~o being treated
unfairly. ~ so, we could go together to
confront the landlord.
Sincerely, Melssa

My group, North Shore Park
Junior Girls, chose the song "It's a
Hard Knock Life" from the movie
Annie. Our group danced to
the 2014 version starring Jamie
Foxx. The song that we all picked
together was very meaningful to us
as a group.
We dressed in costumes based on
the movie we chose. The costumes
included bondanos and overalls .
Annie is a really good movie. We
come up with all the moves for
the dance and practiced for one
month, every day. Like they say,
"Practice Makes Perfect!".
Thank you to all the parents and
coaches for supporting us .

I attended three different
specialty camps this summer.
They were SOBE Great
Adventure, Cooking and
Jr. Lifeguard Camp. Each
specialty camp focused on a
different subject .
In SOBE Great Adventure,
every day we did someth ing
different. We went bike
ri ding in Crandon park.
We went kayaking and
swimm ing in a lake . Another
day, we did stand up
paddle boa rding . We even
did horseback riding where
I got to control the horse
mysel f. The most exciting
activity was tubing. Tubing
is when you get on an inner
tube and you are connected
to a boat and it drags you
over waves . It goes so fast
that sometimes you flip off.
Cooking camp was so much
fun . We learned to how
to cook foods like eggs ,
pork chops , macaroni and
cheese , omelets, spinach
and pancakes . Fr iday, we
played a fun game called
"chopped ." We had to
make food in a certain time
for the judges . At the end,
they picked who has the
best dish . We even had the
chance to invite our families
for an Ital ian dinner.
Last but not least, in Junior
Lifeguard Camp I learned
how to swim, how to do
CPR and how to save
people in the waler. We
went to the beach and got
to jump off of the lifeguard
stand . We also learned how
to surf board and had free
play in the pool.
Specialty camps taught
me things I did not know.
Some of these things were
horseback riding, paddle
boarding, cooking and
surfing . I would have never
learned these things if it
wasn 't for specialty camp!
