WHEREAS, since the adoption of Metropolitan government
in Dade County in 1957 it has not only wholly failed in accom-
plishing its objectives as glowingly envisaged by its adherents,
but has, on the contrary, been inimical to and destructive of
good government and the economic welfare of the City of Miami
Beach, and
WHEREAS, it must be self-evident to every thinking and
responsible citizen of Miami Beach that the only hope for the
economic advancement and welfare of the City of Miami Beach
continues to lie in the achievement of a county separate and
apart from Metropolitan Dade County, and
WHEREAS, the achievement of that goal is dependent upon
the dedicated efforts of the public spirited and responsible
citizens of the community and who comprise the membership of
the several civic groups and organizations who are devoted to
the cause of community betterment and civic improvement,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that each citizen of the
City of Miami Beach and each of the dedicated civic organiza-
tions set forth in the roster appended hereto be and they are
hereby jointly and severally urged and requested to petition
and memorialize, and to otherwise exert their best efforts to
persuade and advise each member of the House of Representatives
and of the Senate from Dade County to jointly introduce a bill
in the 1965 Legislature creating a new county for Miami Beach
in order that the entire Legislature may be afforded the oppor-
tunity to vote upon such bill in accordance with democratic
principles inherent in our representative form of government,
and thereby enable the voice of the people to be heard upon
said issue so vital to the best interests of the citizens of
Miami Beach and of Dade County.
