Resolution 11545 RESOLUTION NO. 11545
WHEREAS , about eleven years ago, at a meeting held in Paris,
France, the City of Miami Beach bid for the establishment in Miami
Beach of the home of Junior Chamber International, and
WHEREAS, the bid of Miami Beach against those of major cities
throughout the world, was accepted, and the City of Miami Beach, on
October 20, 1954, approved establishment of the world offices of
Junior Chamber International in Miami Beach, and
WHEREAS, since the establishment of such offices Miami Beach
has enjoyed a great deal of most favorable international publicity,
and many distinguished dignitaries from foreign nations have
visited Junior Chamber International and officials of Junior
Chamber International from throughout the world, and their wives,
and officers of the United States Junior Chamber of Commerce, have
come to Miami Beach for Junior Chamber International meetings, and
WHEREAS, the growth and development of the international
Jaycees has been great, with the result that the present Junior
Chamber International quarters are inadequate, and
WHEREAS the legislature of the State of Florida recognized
the importance and value to the State of keeping Junior Chamber
International in the State of Florida, and enacted a bill appropri-
ating $50, 000 to provide a permanent home for Junior Chamber
International, provided matching funds are made available by some
city in the State of Florida, and
WHEREAS , several cities throughout the State, outside of Dade
County, have offered to match the State appropriation to induce
Junior Chamber International to move its home to their respective
cities, and
WHEREAS , the City of Miami Beach has borne the expense of
providing office facilities for Junior Chamber International for
over ten years, and
WHEREAS, it is to the best interests of the County of Dade to
keep the Junior Chamber International offices in Dade County,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the
City of Miami Beach:
1. That a committee composed of three members of the City
Council be appointed by the Mayor to negotiate with the Metropoli-
tan Dade County Commission and with Junior Chamber International
officials toward effecting retention of the Junior Chamber Inter-
national offices in Miami Beach.
2 . That the Metropolitan Dade County Commission be urged to
appropriate $25, 000 .00 of the aforesaid $50, 000 .00 .
3 . That a copy of this Resolution be directed to the members
of the Metropolitan Dade County Commission and to the office of the
Junior Chamber International .
PASSED and ADOPTED this 16th day of June, 1965 .
