Resolution 12315 RESOLUTION NO. 12315
WHEREAS, Greyhound Lines, Inc. has appeared before the City Council
of the City of Miami Beach, Florida to request the adoption of a Resolution
supporting the application of said Greyhound Lines, Inc. pending before the
Public Service Commission of Florida for certificate of convenience and
necessity for extension of existing routes to include a route from St.
Petersburg to Fort Lauderdale and return; and
WHEREAS, it is not the desire and intention to attempt to infringe
or encroach upon the rights, duties and jurisdiction of the Public Service
Commission of Florida; and
WHEREAS, however, the City Council of the City of Miami Beach has the
duty of promoting and safeguarding the general welfare of its residents and
its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach possesses an economy dependent upon
tourists and tourism; and
WHEREAS, in performance of its duty the City Council of the City of
Miami Beach must take cognizance of the fact that the economy of the City
of Miami Beach is confronted with the relentless efforts and attempts of
other areas to vie and compete with the City of Miami Beach,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, without any desire or attempt to endorse, approve
or favor any specific carrier or carriers, that the said Public Service
Commission be duly advised that it is the consensus of said City Council
that the tourist economy and general welfare of the City of Miami Beach
will be enhanced by the certification by the said Commission of as many
carriers from as many points to the Miami Beach area as the said Commission
may deem qualified to render such service, and without limitation as to
number.
