RESOLUT I O:! NO. 12350
WHEREAS, Civil Defense in the United States is making a great
effort to do the job that it is expected to do in a national and/or local
disaster, and this task is often made difficult due to lack of the necessary
equipment; and
WHEREAS, the Excess Property Program is available to all federal
agencies, and the purchase of items by the general public leaves little
equipment available to the Civil Defense effort throughout the United States;
and,
WHEREAS, Civil Defense should be privileged to acquire property
fr^m the Excess Property listings; and
WHEREAS, consideration of this resolution would do much toward
effecting a saving to the local taxpayers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH:
That this Council is in accord with the action taken by the Civil
Defense Directors and interested members of the Florida Civil Defense Associa-
tion meeting in regular session at Orlando, Florida, on December 1 , 1967 that
appropriate steps be taken to include Civil Defense in the eligible list of
recipients of Excess Property; or, at the very least, unrestricted eligibility
for Surplus Property for the purpose of increasing local Civil Defense capa-
bilities.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution be forwarded
to the Director of Department of Civil Defense, State of Florida; to members
of Congress representing the State of Florida; and to the Assistant General
Counsel ; Utilization and Disposal Service, U. S. General Services Administra-
tion.
