Resolution 12353 RESOLUTION NO. 12353
WHEREAS, it has come to the official attention of the City Council of
the City of Miami Beach that the Board of Commissioners of Metropolitan
Dade County have taken over certain functions and services previously
performed by the City of Miami , and that Metropolitan Dade County has
taken over and assumed the financial burden and responsibility therefor;
and
WHEREAS, the Dade County Commission will , in turn, place a substantial
portion of that financial burden upon the taxpayers of the City of Miami
Beach, and;
WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Dade County Commission, in so doing, has
ignored repeated requests by the City of Miami Beach that the Metropolitan
Dade County Commission take over the City of Miami Beach ' s functions and
services rendered to all of the people of Dade County, and has thereby
extended and conferred preferential treatment to the City of Miami and
other Dade County municipalities;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Metropolitan Dade County Commission
be and it is hereby formally requested to relieve the taxpayers of the
City of Miami Beach of some portion or degree of the unjust, inequitable
and discriminatory financial burden being thus placed upon them, and that
the said Metropolitan Dade County Commission be and it is hereby formally
requested to take over and assume, with all reasonable dispatch and
expedition, the financial responsibility for the following services and
functions now being performed by the City of Miami Beach, which services
are, in the main, being performed by the City of Miami Beach for the
benefit of the majority of the citizens and residents of all of Dade
County, to wit:
Maintenance, repair and manning of bridges on arterial highways.
Maintenance, repair and paving of arterial highways.
Street lighting on arterial highways.
BE IT FURTHER DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI
BEACH that said Metropolitan Dade County Commission appoint and designate
authorized representatives of said County Commission to meet with authorized
representatives of the City Council of the City of Miami Beach for the
purpose of formulating ways and means for the prompt and immediate turnover
of said services and functions to Metropolitan Dade County.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
FLORIDA, that certified copies of this resolution be transmitted to the
County Manager and to the members of the Metropolitan Dade County Commission.
