OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP STATISTICS THROUGH 5117103
Date: May 21, 2003
OPERATION CLEAN SWEEP continues to be a proactive, enhanced enforcement effort
specifically targeting public disorder types of violations during the peak periods in the
Entertainment District. Since its inception on April 16, there have been 461 arrests and
2936 moving citations issued. The 461 arrests have included 15 for excessively loud
radios, 19 for urinating or defecating in public, 91 for open containers, and 113 for
prostitution. The continuation of this targeted patrol initiative is vital to achieving a
sustainable improvement in the quality of life for our residents in the surrounding
neighborhoods.
The Police Department has proposed continuing Operation Clean Sweep for a full 60 days,
ending on Sunday June 15, 2003. During this sixty-day period the Police Department will
develop a permanent solution to address the on-going quality of life issues impacting the
Entertainment District and the surrounding residential neighborhoods.
