Resolution 11780 RESOLUTION NO. 11780 WHEREAS the United States Supreme Court has directed that a new and Constitutional plan for the reapportionment of the State of Florida so as to provide equal and proportionate representation in the State Legislature, and WHEREAS it is self-evident that all past methods of appor- tionment followed in the State of Florida have been discriminatory against the County of Dade, and WHEREAS the time is now to endow the residents and citizens of the City of Miami Beach for the first time with their rightful share to participate in the democratic processes of government, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA that the Legislature formulate a plan of reapportionment for the Legislature which is based on the basis of Districts and that the plan specifically provide a District which includes the greater Miami Beach area, with a minimum of one member of the House and also to provide a Senatorial District for the area delineated by Government Cut on the South, the Broward County Line on the North and Biscayne Bay on the West, with a minimum of one Senator. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach, Florida that a certified copy of this Resolution be transmitted forthwith to Governor Haydon Burns and to each member of the House and Senate of the State of Florida.
