Resolution 11811 RESOLUTION NO. 11811
WHEREAS the property owners of Miami Beach, Florida have assumed and borne a
major share of the financial burden of taxation in order to maintain the high standard
of services necessary for the operation of our city, and
WHEREAS the City of Miami Beach has developed a strong and successful economy
based on tourism and has supported and encouraged the establishment of the most modern
and complete hotel and apartment facilities for this purpose available for visitors
equal to or surpassing any similar facilities which may exist in any other locality,
and
WHEREAS it is the consensus of this Council that the maintenance and growth of
this major industry as well as all other business interests in our city is necessary
for the permanent well being and progress of our city, and
WHEREAS it is recognized that in order to insure the continuance of this economic
stability, substantial public funds will be necessary to build and administer the
facilities required for such purposes, and
WHEREAS it is also recognized that it is in the interest of all of the citizens
of our city and of the freeholders of our city that the tax burden for this purpose
be equitably shared without unjust assessment or undue burden on any one portion of
our citizenry for the benefit of any other segment of our community or business
interest,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH,
1 FLORIDA that a public meeting be called, same to be held on Thursday, May 12, 1966,
at 8 p.m., in the Cypress Room of the Convention Hall and that all business, civic,
and service organizations be notified and requested to submit to/he City Council by
representative spokesmen recommendations and suggestions for the purpose of broadening
the present tax base of the City of Miami Beach and submitting this information to the
Council so that it may have the opportunity to study the recommendations offered at
the public meeting for subsequent consideration in order to create a more equitable
and less burdensome tax structure, and
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Clerk be authorized to insert appropriate
notices in the leading newspapers notifying the public of this meeting and that the
City Manager further be instructed to notify by mail all civic and commercial member-
ship organizations within the City of Miami Beach relative to this meeting and its
importance to the welfare of our community, and
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the Publicity Department of the City of Miami Beach
cooperate fully in publicizing the purposes and reasons for this public meeting.
