Resolution 11897 RESOLUTION NO. 11897
WHEREAS, the City of Miami Beach Tax Assessor
has prepared and submitted to the City Manager and to the
City Council of the City of Miami Beach a summary of his
analysis of the 1966 Dade County Tax Assessment Roll; and
WHEREAS, the said summary, based upon a large
number of current market sales, appears to indicate that not
less than forty-two (42%) per cent of the taxable parcels of
land in the corporate limits of the City of Miami Beach are
apparently assessed in excess of 100% of current sales prices
and that a projection of this sampling, to encompass the
entire Dade County 1966 Tax Assessment Roll would result in
approximately more than 4, 000 inequitable assessments in said
roll, insofar as the same pertains to taxable property in the
City of Miami Beach; and
WHEREAS, the Dade County Board of County Commissioners
has formally advised the public that all appeals to the Dade
County Board of Equalization must be filed by midnight of July 15,
1966; and
WHEREAS, the Dade County Tax Assessor, as of July 14,
1966, had not completed notifying the property owners of the City
of Miami Beach of their 1966 tax assessments; and
WHEREAS, it is highly possible that a number of
property owners in the City of Miami Beach will not have received
notification of their 1966 tax assessments until after July 15,
1966; and
WHEREAS, due process of law requires that said property
owners be given reasonable notice of any increases in the
assessment on their property and a reasonable opportunity to be
heard on their objections to the same; and
WHEREAS, adherence by the Dade County Commissioners,
sitting as a Board of Equalization, to the date of July 15, 1966,
as being the final date, will result in a denial of due process
to such property owners;
NOW, THEREFORE; BE IT DULY RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Dade County Board
of County Commissioners, sitting as a Board of Equalization, be
and they are hereby respectfully urged to exert all effort and
diligence to correct all existing inequities in the 1966 Dade
County Tax Assessment Roll prepared by the Dade County Tax
Assessor, as the same affects the property of the citizens of
the City of Miami Beach; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA, that the Dade County Board of
