Resolution 11949 RESOLUTION NO. 11949 A RESOLUTION ON FINDINGS OF NECESSITY FOR THE SOUTH SHORE GENERAL NEIGHBORHOOD RENEWAL AREA; FURTHER DELINEATING THE AREA TO BE KNOWN AS THE SOUTH SHORE GENERAL RENEWAL PLAN AREA; DECLARING A SLUM OR BLIGHTED CONDITION; DECLARING THAT THE REHABILITATION, CONSERVATION OR REDEVELOPMENT OF THIS AREA IS NECESSARY; AND DECLARING THIS REDEVELOPMENT TO BE FOR PREDOMINANTLY RESIDENTIAL PE-USF. WHEREAS, by Resolution No. 11850, the City Council of the City of Miami Beach requested the Board of County Commissioners of Dade County, Florida, to direct the Metropolitan Dade County Urban Renewal Agency to co- operate with the City of Miami Beach in the preparation of statistical materials, maps and other preliminary requisite data essential to the preparation of an applic- ation for federally financed assistance in the preparation of the South Shore General Neighborhood Renewal Plan; and WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Dade County Urban Renewal Agency has cooperated with the City of Miami Beach in the preparation of the above mentioned statistical materials, maps and other requisite data; and WHEREAS, the above mentioned statistical materials, maps and other requisite data has been reviewed and studied by the City Council of the City of Miami Beach; and WHEREAS, as a result of said review and study by the said City Council, certain conclusions were reached; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIAMI BEACH, FLORIDA: SECTION 1. That the area of the City of Miami Beach, Florida, which is bounded as follows: Biscayne Bay on the west; Atlantic Ocean on the east; Government Cut Channel on the south; 8th Street between Biscayne Bay and Collins Avenue; and 5th Street between Collins Avenue and the Atlantic Ocean on the north; is hereby designated as the South Shore General Neighborhood Renewal Plan Area. SECTION 2. That said area is a slum or blighted area existing in the City of Miami Beach, Florida. SECTION 3. That the rehabilitation, conservation, re- development, or a combination thereof, of said area is necessary in the interest of the public - 1 - health, safety, morals and welfare. SECTION 4. The redevelopment of this area is to be predominantly residential re-use. PASSED and ADOPTED this 21st day of September , 1966.
